Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
The mechanisms by which HBOT enhances healing include:

  • Hyperoxygenation - increase all body tissue levels of oxygen
  • Neovascularization - enhance growth of new blood vessels
  • Antimicrobial and Antiviral effect - destroys harmful bacteria and virus types
  • Leukocyte activation - enhances ability of white blood cells to remove bacteria and debris
  • Fibroblastic proliferation - increases growth of cells that form reparative tissue.
  • Vasoconstriction - reduces edema (swelling)
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be an important adjunct in a comprehensive
wound-healing program utilized in conjunction with other modalities
including surgical, medical, and physiotherapeutic techniques.
